Peculiarities of Infiltration Measurements in Water-Repellent Forest Soil

چکیده
The paper deals with measurements of water infiltration carried out on a well-developed forest floor formed by needle-leaf litter Norway spruce. Three field methods (tension disk permeameter, single-ring infiltrometer and Guelph permeameter) were used to determine the soil hydraulic conductivity. results strongly influenced repellency at interface between O- A-horizons. This was severely repellent during hot dry summer season, regardless generally humid mountain climate High Tatras foothill. method paradoxically provided lower conductivity (3.2 × 10−4 ± 1.3 10−4) compared tension permeameter (8.5 3.3 due presence water-repellent O/A-interface. effect also observed method, which gave lowest value (5.6 10−5 4.3 10−5). Abrupt retardation may generate shallow subsurface runoff (as proved irrigation experiment) or splash extreme rainfall events promote flow deeper horizons through preferential pathways. effects will depend seasonal variability repellency. Although is source hydrophobic substances that cause O/A-interface can trigger generation, same time its cohesive duff layer protects from erosion.

Dye tracer experiments and modeling of infiltration patterns in a contaminated water repellent sandy soil
Water repellency of soils near the surface leads to preferential flow and transport, because it prevents water from entering hydrophobic areas and concentrates water fluxes in hydrophilic areas. Heterogeneity in the flow field is the main problem for the prediction of contaminant transport. To investigate the flow patterns in a sandy soil, which was contaminated with hydrophobic tar oils and he...
متن کاملSoil water infiltration observation with microwave radiometers
Experiments were conducted using truck-based microwave radiometers operating at 1.41(L-band) and 2.65-GHz (S-band) horizontal polarization to observe small plots during and following sprinkler irrigation. These experiments were conducted on a sandy loam soil in 1994 and a silt loam in 1995. Sandy loam soils typically have higher infiltration capabilities than clays, and in our studies, we were ...
متن کاملCalibration and evaluation of water infiltration models in different soil textures
Accurate estimation of water infiltration into the soil is important for the design of irrigation systems. Therefore, calibration of different models is necessary to estimate the permeability in different regions. The aim of the present study was to calibrate and evaluate the models of Kastiakov, Kastiakov modified, Philip, SCS, Novell, and Horton in different soil textures. To evaluate the acc...

متن کاملA spatial analysis of variance applied to soil-water infiltration
A spatial analysis of variance uses the spatial dependence among the observations to modify the usual interference procedures associated with a statistical linear model. When spatial correlation is present, the usual tests for presence of treatment effects may no longer be valid, and erroneous conclusions may result from assuming that the usual F ratios are F distributed. This is demonstrated u...
